biography
Karoline Buchbinder came from came from the family of David and Regina May in the village Berkach in South Thuringia. She had been married to the musician Karl Buchbinder since 1890 and lived in Bad Kissingen and Würzburg.
Her husband was a musician in Kissingen Spa Orchestra and, therefore, the family lived in Bad Kissingen time and again between 1890 and 1900. Between 1891 and 1897 her daughters Elsa, Hilde, and Rosa were born in Bad Kissingen and in Würzburg.
The woman who was widowed from 1910 lived with her daughter Elsa Rypinski in Heilbronn in 1938. In March 1938 she emigrated to New York on board the “Manhattan”, her daughter Elsa and the other members of the family followed suit. Karoline Buchbinder lived in her daughter Elsa’s household in the Bronx in New York. In 1947, she celebrated her 83rdbirthday there. Her youngest daughter Rosa could emigrate to New York, too, Her daughter Hilde, who was mentally ill, became a victim of the Nazi euthanasia murders in 1940.
Karoline Buchbinder died in New York in July 1953 at the age of 89.
