biography
Heinrich/ Hans Hamburger was born in Bad Kissingen on December 29, 1892 as the youngest child of Isaak Hamburger and his wife Regina, née Fröhlich. He decided to become a butcher just like his father, took on his business in Grabengasse, and in September 1922, married Rosa Walter (*1893) from Sugenheim near Scheinfeld. The couple had three daughters: On October 23, 1923, the twins Else and Margot were born. Margot died two months after her birth. On February 2, 1931 the youngest child Ruth was born.
After their father’s death at the end of August 1937, the Hamburgers moved to Göppingen in mid-October 1937 from where they emigrated to America. Heinrich’s brother Alfred (now Adolph) who had lived in the USA since 1903 had travelled to Germany before and had entreated his brother to leave Germany with his family. He also got the necessary affidavit for them and took care of a place to stay in New York. At the beginning, the Hamburgers stayed in New York for a year before they moved to Heinrich’s brothers to McGhee in Arkansas. Heinrich who called himself Henry in the USA, died in Dumas/ Arkansas in August 1966 at the age of 73. His wife Rosa had already died in 1952.
