biography
Rosa Süss, née Baum lived in Bad Kissingen for only a short time and worked as a household help during that time. She was born in Hessian Frei-Laubersheim on January 5, 1913 as the daughter of the cattle dealer Salomon Baum and his wife Zerline, née Ackermann. She grew up in a family of many children with three sister and two brothers. Not very much is known about her life.
At the beginning of July 1935, the household help who was still unmarried at that time, moved from Bruchsal to Bad Kissingen and worked in the household of Oscar Eisenburg in Promenadestrasse. In September, she moved into Von-der-Tann-Strasse and was employed in Hotel Seelig till the middle of December. At the end of the year, she went to Maikammer and lived with the Süß family in Schulstrasse 3. Supposedly, the tradesman and wine commissary Gustav Süß, who was widowed since 1897, had employed her as household help. In November 1938, she moved to Wiesbaden with the 70-year-old Gustav Süß for some weeks but both of them returned to Maikammer in the middle of December. Their last place of residence before their deportation was Frankfort/ Main, where they lived in Scherzheimer Landstrasse 67 since June 1939. Presumably, Rosa Baum married the widower who was nearly 45 years her senior, as she is filed in the Memorial Books (Koblenz/ Yad Vashem) under the family name “Süß”.
In September 1942, the two of them were deported from Frankfort to Theresienstadt, where Gustav Süß died on May 15, 1943 at the age of 75. In May 1944, Rosa Süß was deported from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz/ OświęcimExtermination Camp and murdered there. Details of her death are not known.
Rosa’s parents and her sisters Johanna and Flora also became victims of the Shoa. Her brothers Arthur and Marx were able to escape to Argentine in time.
