biography
Martha Cohn stayed in Bad Kissingen in the summer months of 1931 and 1932 and worked as a cook in the Israelite children's sanatorium.
Little is known about her life. She was born in May 1896, the second daughter of Lehmann (Lizmann) Cohn and his wife Piene, née Bohn, in Friedrichsberg (Berlin, district of Lichtenberg). Her sister Jenny (1893 - 1933) was three years older.
Martha Cohn came to Bad Kissingen for the first time in May 1931 and was employed as a cook at the Israelite children's sanatorium during the summer months. She took up this position again in the following spa season and then finally left the spa town in November 1932.
Martha Cohn, who remained single throughout her life, later lived in Eisenach. It is possible that she also lived in Wolfach (Nordrach) in the Black Forest for a short time; according to the minority population census of May 1939, she was registered there. She was taken from Eisenach to the Weimar "reception camp" in 1942 and deported from there to the Belzyce ghetto in May 1942, where she was murdered.
Martha's sister Jenny died in December 1933; nothing is known about the fate of her parents.
