biography
Rosa Frei, née Löwenberger was born in Prichsenstadt on May 30, 1869 as the first child of the cattle dealer Wolf Löwenberger and his wife Jette, née Amerikaner. She had eight younger siblings.
In 1898, Rosa Löwenberger married the merchant Bernhard Frei and moved into his home village of Steinach. Rosa’s younger sister Gertrud also married into the Steinach Frei family and lived there. After the early death of her husband, Rosa Frei moved to Bad Kissingen, presumably together with her children. At the beginning, she lived there in Hartmannstrasse 22 and then with her eldest son Isidor, who had a wine business there, in Ludwigstrasse 14.
Rosa’s younger sister Cilly also lived in the Franconian spa town. She was married to the master butcher Lazarus Mann and could emigrate to the USA in 1936 together with her daughter Irene.
Rosa Frei died in August 1935 at the age of 66 and was buried on the Jewish Cemetery in Bad Kissingen.
