Mann Max
Weingasse 5
deported
biography
Max Mann was born in Bad Kissingen on June 14, 1902 as the second child of the butcher Lazarus Mann and his wife Cilly, née Löwenberger. He had five siblings. The family lived in Weingasse where Max’s father ran a butchery.
So far, his biography could only be reconstructed without a lot of certainty and in patches. He was a tailor by trade and, according to his brother Kurt, later lived in Cologne. He was married to Mathilde nee Feuler, about whose fate nothing is known. Max Mann was deported and committed suicide in the Mauthausen concentration camp. In the early morning hours of August 20, 1942, he ran into the electric fence of the concentration camp to escape the horror and terror in the camp. In the Koblenz Memorial Book no entry about him is to be found.
Max’ sister Lucy was also deported and murdered. His mother and the other siblings, however, could emigrate to the United States.
