Max Schuster was born in Coburg on April 10, 1906. His father Julius was a merchant and came from a cattle-dealers’ family in Nordheim vor der Rhön. His mother Hedwig Ida, née Löwenthal was born in Upper Franconian Altenkunstadt. The family first lived in Coburg but soon moved to Nuremberg where Max’ sister Edith was born in 1911. Max’ father ran a seasonal business in the summer months in Bad Kissingen since 1913. Max also spent the summer months in the Franconian spa town – in the first years occasionally, and regularly from 1932 till 1936. After his education as a merchant, he is supposed to have supported his father who owned a business (“Noris-Magazin”) in Lindesmühlpromenade. In the winter months, the family lived in Nuremberg, Max in Frankfort/ Main since 1935. In the following year, he already left Germany and emigrated to the United States via Southampton in May 1936.

His father, who had married again after the death of Max’ mother, managed to flee to New York with his wife in Spring 1940 where both of them were first welcomed by Max. Max Schuster had been married to Gerda Menges from Frankfort/ Main since August 1938. Probably in 1944 their son Harvey was born.Little is known about his further life. The couple later lived in the Federal State of Connecticut. Max Schuster died there in the town of Norwalk in February 1989 at the age of 82. His wife had already died two years earlier.
