biography

Käthe Abramowicz lived and worked in Bad Kissingen for only few months. She was born on April 29, 1906, the daughter of the bookseller Heinrich Abramowicz (1871 - 1922) and his wife Rebecka née Schmerl (1877 - 1933) in Posen, western Poland, and grew up with three siblings. Only little is known about her life. She was never married and lived in Berlin/ Mitte later on.

At the beginning of May 1938, she moved to Bad Kissingen and was employed as a kitchen help in Hotel Apolant. In July 1938, she already returned to Berlin and her last address was Köpenicker Strasse 108. From there she was deported to Auschwitz/ Oświęcim extermination camp and murdered there. Exact details concerning her death are not known.

Her younger brother Walter Leopold was also deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and murdered. Her sister Ruth (1907-1999), on the other hand, managed to flee to the United States. In 1940, while in exile in Brussels, Belgium, she married Icek Danielak, who was originally from Poland, and emigrated with him to Cuba. After the war, they were able to enter the United States in December 1945.

Her sister Else (*1904) had already died in July 1929 at the age of 24 in Berlin/Schmargendorf.
