biography

Chaja Lonnerstädter was born in Veitshöchheim on December 30, 1852 as the daughter of Salomon Lonnerstädter and his wife Babette, née Adler. The reason for Bad Kissingen becoming the center of her life later, was that her older sister Dina and her husband Lazarus had founded one of the most renowned kosher hotels in the spa town. Therefore, not only Chaja herself but also her mother Babette, her youngest brother Salomon and her sister Rosa lived in Bad Kissingen for many years. The exact periods of time can’t be defined with absolute certainty by looking at their registration data.

No later than in 1908, Chaja Lonnerstädter, who stayed unmarried all her life, lived with her sister Rosa in Theresienstrasse 11/12 (old), the location of Hotel Ehrenreich. Both of them joined the “Israelite Charity Society” in the same year and were its members for many years. In May 1936, the two sisters moved into Hemmerichstrasse 33 and lived with Josef Grünebaum who had married the granddaughter of their sister Dina.
