biography

Julius Gutmann was born in Bad Kissingen on May 11, 1888 as the second of five children of the merchant and cattle dealer Aaron Gutmann and his wife Karoline (Lina) Löwenthal. From November 1898 till the end of the school year 1902/1903, he attended Kissingen Realschule, the predecessor of contemporary Jack-Steinberger-Gymnasium. He lived with his parents in Salinenstrasse 8. In 1909, Julius’ father died.Julius' brothers Berthold and Leopold had already emigrated to the United States in 1914 and 1922, respectively.

Julius Gutmann got a training as a merchant and volunteered for fighting in World War I. There is only sparse information on his further life. He survived the Nazi Era and emigrated to Argentine like his brother Siegfried. When he left Germany is not known at the moment. As a citizen of Argentine, he lived in Buenos Aires – like his brother Siegfried. Julio Gutmann as he was called according to his Argentinian passport – stayed unmarried and worked as an entrepreneur.

A limited emigration visa to Brazil from the year 1958 has been found. And in December 1964, the 76-year-old pensioner was in Sao Paulo again and held an Argentinian and a German passport at that time.
